It had been sitting there for at least 35 years. I found this in a barn that was cleaning out. Apparently, the wire could be quite long. I only found out what it was last week on the internet.
Years ago, some aircraft had Hf radios that required the radio operator to spool out a wire would trail behind. I've had it for about 15 years. It is vintage, near-mint and unused.
